As part of its Community Development Program, CN Green Roof Asia provided Solar-Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) units to the Farmers Associations of Barangay Balsic in Hermosa, Bataan. This intervention aims to enhance access to reliable and sustainable water sources for local farming activities, particularly during dry seasons when traditional irrigation becomes limited or costly.

The SPIS intervention includes a solar-powered water pump, mounted solar panels, and a distribution network that supplies water to the farmers association's communal farmland. This system reduces dependence on diesel-powered pumps during sunny days, lowering both operational costs and carbon emissions. It ensures a consistent water supply, allowing farmers to plant more regularly - especially during the summer months - and increase their harvests throughout the year.

Through this initiative, CN Green Roof Asia supports local farmers in boosting productivity, improving food security, and promoting climate-resilient agriculture. The intervention was developed in close consultation with the Farmers Associations and the local government units of Balsic Hermosa Bataan, from November 2024 to April 2025, to ensure community ownership and long-term sustainability. Capacity-building sessions on system operation, maintenance, climate-resilient farming practices, and water management are also envisioned as part of the support package.

In May 2025, the initial four SPIS units were turned over to three farmers associations, namely:

1. Balsik Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (BARBA) – 2 units
2. Balsik Golden Rice and Corn Association – 1 unit
3. Balsik Hermosa Farmers Rice and Corn Association – 1 unit

The site survey and installation of the initial four units was started in June 2025 and followed by testing and commissioning and ribbon cutting in July 2025. Additional SPIS units are planned for distribution to ensure equitable access and benefits among farmers’ groups and vulnerable agricultural communities in Barangay Balsic and the neighboring Barangay Saba in Hermosa, Bataan.
